Please join the W21C team for a day focused on celebrating the research and partnerships that inspire us to MAKE CARE BETTER.

W21C is a research and innovation centre based in the University of Calgary's O'Brien Institute for Public Health and Alberta Health Services. Our interdisciplinary research team aims to improve patient safety and quality of care in our health systems.

W21C serves as a research and testing-site for exemplary hospital design, novel approaches to health care delivery, and innovative medical technologies. We offer an array of research services--with specializations in human factors, clinical trials, digital health, and aging-in-place.

Keynote Speaker: Crystal Phillips

Crystal Phillips

Crystal Phillips is a former National Level Speed Skater and now Executive Director of the Branch Out Neurological Foundation, a charity she co-founded in 2010 to accelerate innovative technologies and non pharmaceutical approaches for neurological disorders. The Branch Out Foundation has raised over 2.5 Million dollars and funds neuroscientists across Canada. It has become a catalyst for change in neuro health care and non-pharmaceutical neuroscience. Crystal's calendar and daily to-do list is exciting and diverse, ranging from strategic planning, public speaking, fundraising and networking galore. She was named one of 18 Canadian change makers by CBC Canada to celebrate Canada's 150th, she made the Top 30 Under 30 by Explore Magazine in 2012 and Top 40 Under 40 by Avenue Magazine in 2016. When not moving mountains with the Branch Out Foundation, she's climbing them in the Canadian rockies with her husband John and dog named Bear.
